HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Mitt Romney has occasionally had an awkward way of phrasing things, and Tuesday’s debate produced another gem for the Internet when he talked about having brought “binders full of women” to his job as Massachusetts governor.

Mr. Romney, the Republican presidential nominee, was answering a question about how he would help equalize pay between men and women, and he pointed to his experience during his term as governor.

“We took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. I went to a number of women’s groups and said, ‘Can you help us find folks?’ And I brought us whole binders full of — of women,” he said.

The Internet went wild over the comment.

Several videos of the comment were posted on YouTube, and the comment itself got tweeted prolifically.
