Ben Wallace is considering leaving government in an autumn reshuffle after four years as defence secretary, The Times has been told.

Rishi Sunak is preparing to reshape his top team as he attempts to reset his government before the next election after a gruelling start to his time as prime minister.

Wallace, 53, is said to believe that his time as defence secretary is coming to an end and is weighing up whether to stand down from government.
