CUSTER COUNTY, Okla. – Two cars emerged from the murky waters of Foss Lake. Investigators continued to gather evidence from two cars Tuesday.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol was testing sonar equipment when troopers found the cars.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office says the cars are a late 1960s Camaro and an early 1950s Chevrolet.

Debbie Mcmanaman thinks her grandfather, 69-year-old John Alva Porter, was in the ’50s Chevy. He disappeared in 1969.

“I mean, he was just gone,” said Mcmanaman. “No trace at all. His money was in the bank, his house was intact and he was gone. So over 40 years we’ve been looking for him.”

One grandson, Jim Porter, believes his grandfather’s two friends were inside the car with him.

Ervie Porter is the son of John Alva Porter. He watched as investigators crawled around the cars.

“I just appreciate everything everybody has done to help,” said Ervie.

“It’s been very traumatic,” said Mcmanaman. “I can remember my dad having dreams at night and getting in the car as soon as he got off work from his day job, and he’d take my mom and they’d look and look for any trace.”

Sheriff Bruce Peoples says that car had the remains of three people inside.

He says the Camero also had three people inside. The car matches the description of the one three Sayre teens were in when they vanished in 1970, Jimmy Allen Williams 16, Thomas Michael Rios, 18, and Leah Gail Johnson, 18.

Family of the teens showed up at the lake to see the car say the teens.

Now teams work to identify the remains, hoping to bring closure to families.
