ELGIN, Iowa — A 4-year-old boy died Friday after accidentally shooting himself in the head.
According to KWWL, initial reports say the boy’s mom and three children were visiting a friend Friday afternoon when the incident happened.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office told the station that the mom and the friend stepped outside while the 4-year-old and two other younger children were left. That’s when the gun went off.
Authorities say the boy shot himself in the head.
He was transported to a hospital in west Union where he died.
