Sen. Casey: “Less than 50%” chance of Russia/Syria fulfilling commitment; will know in a “matter of days”

Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) told “New Day” Anchor Kate Bolduan that there is only a “matter of days” before it becomes clear that Syria will fulfill its commitment of turning over chemical weapons. Senator Casey claimed that there is a “less than 50%” chance of success for a diplomatic solution, even though he thinks this option would have a “better” result than a military strike.

“In the more than 24 hours now since we’ve been examining [Russia and Syria’s proposal], there seems to be some potential. But let’s not kid ourselves, the chances of this happening are a lot less than 50%,” Senator Casey said.

“It’s only viable if the Syrian regime fulfills any commitments that they make,” Senator Casey said. “And we’ll know that in a matter of days. This won’t take days to figure out if they’re credible and serious.”

“New Day” airs weekday mornings from 6-9 a.m. ET on CNN.
