Boris Johnson’s Covid WhatsApps: ex-PM ‘can’t remember iPhone password’

Boris Johnson has been unable to give WhatsApp messages from his old mobile phone to the Covid inquiry because he cannot remember the passcode, The Times has been told.

The former prime minister is unable to recall the passcode for the device, which he stopped using in May 2021, with “100 per cent confidence”.

There are concerns that the device, an Apple iPhone, will automatically disable and that the contents could be erased if the wrong code is entered.

Normal iPhones become disabled if people repeatedly enter the wrong passcode, often leaving them with no choice but to erase the data and reset the device. Johnson’s phone has a higher level of security.
